Why adopt ODF 2
Assuming you are a part of a successful team given the time, resources, and tools to build and ship enterprise-grade software building standards, focusing on quality. The idea behind ODF is to establish a company-wide standard allowing effective use-case automation and code reuse. WorkFusion wishes to share several most important technics which made the work of similar teams successful.
Framework benefits
- All enterprise-grade IA Cloud project Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) guides are now based on ODF.
- The WorkFusion product includes patches required for ODF in future releases, with ODF and IA Cloud Developer available out-of-the-box.
- The ODF team is committed to supporting released versions of ODF by fixing "showstopper" and "critical" bugs.
- Both ODF 1 and ODF 2 are supported for IA Cloud Enterprise v10.x.
- WorkFusion provides enablement for teams that start with ODF.
- ODF becomes the centralized "app store" for the distribution of reusable IA Cloud components.
WorkFusion development progression
To better understand origination of the current tools, see the progression driven by the WorkFusion product transformation during the decade of its history.
Crowdsource
Started as a crowd-sourcing platform, WorkFusion has offered scaled task management for multiple platforms such as MTurk, Upwork, and CrowdFlower. Manual work results were used as training input for Machine Learning models. Projects weren't enterprise-grade, working mostly with public data via scrapping technics. Thus, development—as scripting Bot Tasks—was done directly in the web-based Control Tower, using the WebHarvest XML scripting library with custom Beanshell scripts.
RPA, low-code, and getting mature
During the next five years, automations matured and became more complex, demanding more complex coding. We introduced an IDE with a debug feature and the initial layered code architecture with deploy capabilities.
In 2017, WorkFusion offered a code-less approach to RPA automation for the first time. Originally called RPA Express, it evolved into the IA Cloud Business product later. Finally, the Recorder capability has moved into the flagship Enterprise product, with IA Cloud Business turning into IA Cloud Developer that offers a local workstation development environment for Automation Engineers.
Use Cases for Enterprise
Due to enterprise-grade automation demand from customers, implementation teams started introducing frameworks to standardize architecture patterns and platform-use technics and brought in more Enterprise development tools.
As a result, the WorkFusion product offered Open Development Framework (ODF) in 2019. The WorkFusion Professional Services group has driven its evolution by adding new design practices combined in the Intellectual Document Processing (IDP) standard productized as the ODF 2 standard in Q2 2021.
Now, ODF 2 is a recommended approach to design and deliver complex Use Case automations.
