Explore development tools and techniques

To develop with IA Cloud Enterprise, you have the following components:

• Control Tower with all features available in server Enterprise version.
• WorkSpace with all features.
• RPA runtime environment running a single bot on a local workstation.
• WorkFusion Studio IDE with:
  • Code (for Automation Engineer) and Recorder (for Low-Code Developer) perspectives.
  • Inspector tool for collecting handlers from native Windows (multiple frameworks), Java, SAP applications.
  • Git and Subversion (svn) IDE plugins for work with version control systems.
  • Maven build tool IDE plugin for Automation Engineer.
  • Out-of-the-box integration with ODF archetypes to quick-start RPA and ML automation projects.
  • Compatibility with IA Cloud Enterprise: a concrete compatible Enterprise version depends on the ODF archetype version used.
• Secrets Vault to store components credentials.
• File Storage to store binary files and documents used in Business Processes.
• OCR to understand structured and unstructured documents and extract fields.

Check system requirements

Mind the following OS requirements:

• Microsoft Windows 8+ 64-bit is needed for development.
• Windows 10 is recommended. Mind that WorkFusion does not ship macOS and Linux versions.

Installation of WorkFusion and recommended tools into Windows OS working under a virtual machine is out of product scope but is acceptable in exceptional cases.

Your workstation should have sufficient computation power to run multiple tools and build Java projects fast enough. Refer to the detailed requirements for the IA Cloud Developer installation prerequisites. The requirements for a Windows VDI or a dedicated laptop or desktop are as follows:

Do not run unneeded applications when working on large projects or using the IA Cloud Developer's RPA Recorder tool.

Install tools for WorkFusion development

To be a productive Automation Engineer, you should have multiple tools in addition to WorkFusion's IA Cloud Developer and IDEA IDE if that is your personal preference. These tools depend on the role you perform and are as follows:

Basics	Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Google Chrome: default browser to access WorkFusion web apps. Notepad++ or Sublime Text Editor.
Standard	S3 Browser or CyberDuck S3 Browser: client utility to connect to WorkFusion File Storage used to store binary files. Java SE Development Kit 8: to verify availability from the command line, use the java -version command. Apache Maven 3.x: to verify availability from the command line, use the mvn -version command. Git or another version control (VC) client: to centrally store code and development artifacts with version control; depends on the version control system used in the company. IA Cloud Developer's Eclipse comes with Git and SVN plugins out of the box. IDEA also has all major VCs integrated. Thus, a standalone VC client is needed if the one built in IDE doesn't satisfy needs or is missed. 7-Zip or WinRar: archiving tools.
Role-specific	WorkFusion IA Cloud Developer: a specific version is provided based on the version of the Platform installed; includes WorkFusion Studio Eclipse IDE. IntelliJ Idea Community Edition: for those who select IDEA as a personal preference. Apache Maven Client 3.x.		LibreOffice. Anaconda/Python 3.6.	Tableau Desktop: a specific version and the WorkFusion-provided license are supplied on demand.
Advanced and optional for troubleshooting or debugging	Putty as a SSH client. Postman or cUrl: to speed up development and simplify the analysis of issues. Postman is required to run direct API calls to WorkFusion components. Some projects can include API integrations. WinSCP: to copy files to and from Linux machines of the WorkFusion setup. ImageMagick: a free and open-source software suite for displaying, converting, and editing raster and vector image files. Some automations can require programmatic manipulations with images before OCR. GhostScript: an interpreter for the PostScript language and PDF. Some automations can require programmatic manipulations with PDF. For the WorkFusion database access: SQL Management Studio. DBeaver with SQL Server driver as an alternative. Get access to server environment

You should have a set of credentials to access the server environment:

• Web URLs and user credentials for the following web applications:
  • Control Tower and WorkSpace
  • File Storage or Minio Browser
  • Mesos and Marathon (for MLE)
• Repository/API URL and credentials for:
  • AutoML REST API
  • OCR REST API
  • Platform Nexus Repository
  • Maven Central Repository (should be open)

To perform troubleshooting and reconfiguration, you shoul have access to:

• Linux servers via SSH
• BI Windows Server (for the Tableau Server configuration)
• RPA VDI or Windows Servers
