WorkFusion analytics license
After WorkFusion Analytics Server or WorkFusion Analytics Desktop installation you need to activate the products. To complete activation process, you need to get WorkFusion Analytics Server and Desktop product keys from the WorkFusion team.
If WorkFusion Analytics Server and Desktop need to be upgraded, deactivated keys will be used to activate new versions. There are two ways to activate or deactivate product keys: a procedure if you have the Internet access and a different procedure if you don't. Follow the procedure for your scenario.
License type
There are two Tableau products, which can be used with the WorkFusion platform:
- WorkFusion Analytics Desktop
- Type: named license
- Number of activations: 2
- Workfusion Analytics Server
- Type: named license
- Five seats (Tableau users) minimum
- Number of activations: 3 (Test, Development, Production)
Each license is issued for 1 year. Upon expiration it is possible to extend the Maintenance contract annually at 20% of initial license price.
License for five server users is distributed in the following way:
- 1 user is Administrator
- 1 user is WorkFusion application
- 3 spare users for connecting to server via WorkFusion Analytics Desktop or via the Server UI
Product keys and license details
The current number of licensed seats and product key information for WorkFusion Analytics Server Server administrators can view using the server web interface.
Single-site license
For the single-site installation, click Settings and go to the Licenses tab:

Multi-site license
On a multi-site server, select Manage All Sites in the site menu first, then click Settings and go to the Licenses tab:

Manage All Sites is displayed only when you are signed in as a server administrator.
Click Users to see Product Keys and License details.
License details
The License Details provides summarized information for all product keys installed on the server, including:
- Seat licenses total: total number of seats (unique WorkFusion Analytics Server users) covered by all product keys.
- Seat licenses in use: total number of seats in use.
- Seat licenses available: total number of seats available.
- Unlicensed users: number of users on WorkFusion Analytics Server without a license assigned.
For each Product Key, you can see the following information:
- Product Key: key used to activate the license.
- Seats: number of seats covered by the license.
- Maintenance Ends: date when Maintenance Contract expires.
- Expires: date when the license expires.
- Valid: license status.
Activate on computer with Internet access
WorkFusion Analytics Server
Select Activate the product.
Enter or paste your product key and click Activate.
Click Continue.
Enter the fields to register WorkFusion Analytics and click Register.
Restart Tableau Server after registration is complete.
WorkFusion Analytics Desktop
Start WorkFusion Analytics Desktop.
Enter or paste your product key and click Activate.
Click Continue.
Enter the fields to register WorkFusion Analytics and click Register.
Activate offline
Create and submit offline activation file
Select Activate the product.
Enter or paste your product key and click Activate.
When you are offline, WorkFusion Analytics cannot complete the activation, and it prompts you to save
offline.tlqfile that you can use for offline activation. Click Save.Back in the Workfusion Analytics product, click Exit to close the Activate dialog box.
From a computer that has the Internet access, open a web browser and go to the Activation page on the Tableau website.
Complete the instructions on the Activation page to submit your
offline.tlqfile, and then complete the procedure in one of the two following sections before closing the browser page.
Run activation file to complete activation for WorkFusion Analytics Server
After you submit your offline.tlq file to the Activation page, a file called activation.tlf is created.
Save the
activation.tlffile.On the computer running WorkFusion Analytics Server, copy the
activation.tlffile into the WorkFusion Analytics Server bin folder.Open a command prompt as an Administrator and navigate to the WorkFusion Analytics Server bin folder.
Run
tabadmin stopto stop all WorkFusion Analytics Server processes.Run the command
tabadmin activate --tlf activation.tlf. This step may take a few minutes to complete.note
The following steps are only necessary if you are prompted a second time to activate WorkFusion Analytics Server. This happens when you are activating an offline computer that has never had an activated WorkFusion Analytics license on it.
If prompted to activate again, do the following:
- Repeat the procedure in the Create and submit offline activation file section above to create a second
offline.tlqfile. - Repeat steps 1-5 in this section again, Run activation file to complete activation for Tableau Server, to create a second
activation.tlfand initialize the product key again.

Run the
tabadmin startcommand to start all WorkFusion Analytics Server processes again. After this step you can close the Command Prompt.Then you need to register. Select Start > All Programs > Workfusion Analytics Server <version>.
Right-click Manage Product Keys and select Run as Administrator. Even if you are logged into the Tableau Server computer as an administrator, you need to do this to avoid a potential registration error.
Enter the required information in the registration dialog box to complete activation.
Run activation file to complete activation for WorkFusion Analytics Desktop
After you submit your offline.tlq file to the Activation page, a file called activation.tlf is created.
- Save the
activation.tlffile and move it to the computer on which you installed WorkFusion Analytics Desktop. - Double-click the
activation.tlffile to activate the product. Your offline activation is complete, and you can begin using the product. - After starting WorkFusion Analytics Desktop enter the values in fields in registration form and click Register.
Deactivate on computer with Internet access
WorkFusion Analytics Server
- Sign in to the computer running WorkFusion Analytics Server.
- Navigate to **Start **> All Programs > WorkFusion Analytics Server <version> > Manage Product Keys.
- Select the product key that you want to deactivate, and then click Deactivate.
- When prompted, click Yes.
WorkFusion Analytics Desktop
Start WorkFusion Analytics Desktop on the BI server where you originally installed it.
Select Help > Manage Product Keys.
In the Manage Product Keys dialog box, select the product key and click Deactivate.
Close WorkFusion Analytics Desktop.
Deactivate offline

Steps 3-5 are the same for Server and Desktop product keys deactivation process.
WorkFusion Analytics Server
Sign in to the computer running WorkFusion Analytics Server.
Navigate to Start > All Programs > WorkFusion Analytics Server <version> > Manage Product Keys.
In the Manage Product Keys dialog box, select the product key to deactivate and click Deactivate.
A prompt will display asking to save the
return.tlqfile for processing.Click Save.
From a computer that has the Internet access, go to the Activation page on the Tableau website, click Choose File, select
return.tlq, and then click Upload Activation File.Tableau sends you a
return.tlrfile.On the computer running WorkFusion Analytics Server, copy the
return.tlrfile into the WorkFusion Analytics Server bin folder.Open a command prompt as an administrator and navigate to the WorkFusion Analytics Server bin folder.
Run the following command:
tabadmin activate --tlr return.tlr
WorkFusion Analytics Desktop
Start WorkFusion Analytics Desktop.
Select Help > Manage Product Keys.
In the Manage Product Keys dialog box, select the product key to deactivate and click Deactivate.
An error message appears and prompts you to save the
return.tlqfile for processing.Click Save.
From a computer that has the Internet access, go to the Activation page on the Tableau website, click Choose File, select
return.tlq, and then click Upload Activation File.Tableau sends you a
return.tlrfile.Copy the
return.tlrfile to the computer where you're uninstalling WorkFusion Analytics Desktop.Double-click the
return.tlrfile.Nothing is displayed, but this deactivates the product key.
To verify that the product key is deactivated, start WorkFusion Analytics Desktop. If it asks you for a product key, the product key was deactivated successfully.
